Eurasian Collared-Dove

All About Birds↗ | Audubon↗ | eBird↗

"In Greek myth, this mournful-sounding bird was once a servant who complained about her wages" according to the Wingspan card.

These birds are not migratory, but their range has steadily increased over time. They were released in the Bahamas in the 1970s, and reached San Francisco in 2007. They generally occupy the same ecological niche as Mourning Doves without out-competing them. Unlike Mourning Doves, they have collars and lack spots on their backs.
